Prior to the adoption of 2.70.020 (Ord. 2258) on 05/03/2004, Chapter 2.70.020 read as follows.

To the extent authorized by law and to the extent required by Section 35 of the Act (5 ILCS 425/35), the mayor is authorized, annually, to appoint an ethics officer of the city. The appointed ethics officer shall serve until his successor is appointed by the mayor, and qualified. The ethics officer’ s duties shall be as provided in Section 35 of the Act.
